This email list is Cambridge City Council's Arts & Recreation list which will provide information on Council events including shows at the Cambridge Corn Exchange
The Main stage will close from 5pm – 7.30pm when all eyes will be on the Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration stage and the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Cambridge! The stage will reopen to a two-hour community extravaganza ‘Field for Dreams’ – the culmination of a City Council Public Art community engagement project led by arts organisation Same Sky.
A Field For Dreams is a unique arts spectacular, putting the people of Cambridge in the spotlight! Award-winning community arts charity, Same Sky and their team of local artists have spent months leading up to the Big Weekend, working behind the scenes with over 50 schools and community groups.
Working across the city in each area: north with support from Napp, south and east with support from Ridgeons and west/central, the Same Sky team has taken the Olympics inspired themes of diversity, equality, peace and a healthy environment and worked with all the schools and groups in each sector on their particular theme.
The final result will be an amazing piece of public art at its creative best and unique to Cambridge, with giant puppets, flags, stage pyrotechnics, music, dance and a giant sculptural frieze which will be constructed as darkness falls.
Why not visit each community’s camp on site during the day, to meet their giant puppet before the show and take part in a workshop making a flag or lantern so you can join in.
Celebrating an historic moment, A Field For Dreams promises to be a truly one-off spectacle the likes of which the city will never see again.
